Mtwapa town went into a frenzy last weekend when three men tried to rob a Faulu branch at gun point in broad daylight. Two went in guns ablaze, while the third remained at the door. Unfortunately for them, an employee sounded the alarm before they could be handed over three bags full of money. A police unit in patrol arrived at the scene and immediately responded. Fearing that they have been cornered, the three surrendered, raised up their arms and dropped the weapons. More police units arrived and the suspects were bundled into a police car and taken to Mtwapa police post. All customers’ details were taken into account and then the branch was closed for business until the following morning.
It didn’t take long for Cynthia, the branch accountant to notice that there is a sharp discrepancy in the bank vault numbers. At least 4.5 million was missing from her coffers. She quickly informed the management. As it turned out, during the police investigation, one of the officers could be seen, after CCTV footage was pulled, pushing one of the bags of money onto a cart and putting it in the boot of one of the cars. It later emerged that his name was Alfred Katana, a local police Constable. He didn’t show up to work that morning. His phone was also off. He had vanished into thin air. Nobody knew where he was. Not even his brother.
Another investigation on top of the previous day’s commenced. A man hunt was organized, fearing that he could use his police training strategies to keep himself hidden. The bank manager was furious, especially after being shoved aside during the melee and mayhem the previous day. A meeting was quickly called within the bank, to determine a course of action. It was Cynthia’s sister who suggested a native doctor from Vihiga could help them. Cynthia had called her to issue juicy gossip.
Dr mugwenu never disappoints. In less than an hour, Alfred had been located. He had booked a lodging in Malindi, in a bid to catch a breath before finding an easier way out of the country to Somalia. He was arrested and brought back to Mtwapa alongside the bag of money. The management was so relieved, thanked Dr mugwenu for helping them recover their money and end what could have been months of recovery.
