A woman Recounts how she found out her husband impregnated another woman after becoming wealthy
A Kikuyu lady, Phanice Wanjiku, has recounted how she almost took away her own life after discovering that her husband secretly married another woman. Phanice disclosed that she found that her husband had impregnated another woman, and she confronted him in the meeting where he brought another woman and claimed she was his third wife. “We met in Campus and I fell in love. By the time I was graduating I was already a mother. We moved in together and later got married,” Phanice said. “With a bright future ahead of us we worked hard to realise our goals. My husband landed a good job in one of the government institutions, and this saw us move from Kibera slum where we were living in a shanty ‘mabati’ house to a gated estate in Runda. That wasn’t all were were also able to own few cars and shops,” she said.
As they were moving houses, they agreed that Phanice would stay at home to look after their baby until later age, so that meant that Phanice had to leave her job until their kid was enrolled in school. Speaking further, she said;” I don’t know if it was money or my hubby had concealed his character while were struggling. The moment money checked in, he drastically changed. The man who used to come home early would come back past midnight and drunk,” Phanice said as she tried to find out what the problem was. She tried as much as she could but there was absolutely no concrete reason. One day she heard her husband making an inquiry on phone about a CT scan or ultrasound. At this time Phanice wasn’t pregnant. She got curious and wanted to know whose scanning was organized. When Phanice asked her husband about the scan, she received an unforgettable slap. That didn’t deter Phanice from making inquiries but no one opened up for her.
Luckily her husband organized a come-together bash for family and friends. During the event one of his friends girlfriend asked how comfortable Phanice was with a co-wife.
Phanice got curious about the question and wanted to get a clear line. “When I asked my friend to expound, she just brushed me off and told me to inquire from her relative. Eager to get details, I approached her cousin, she confirmed. Phanice was furious when she confronted him, surprisingly he didn’t deny it. They escalated the matter to his parents and apparently his parents firmly confirmed to her that polygamy is allowed in their community and if she felt uncomfortable she was free to walk away, and let those who are ready to step in. At the meeting, he also brought another woman and introduced her as his third wife.
“I felt like the world had fallen on me, I couldn’t even contemplate anything other than separation. Immediately we returned from the village I picked my few belongings and called it quit. Starting from scratch wasn’t easy. I sank into depression which almost cut short my life. I tried to commit suicide three times before I was rescued by my friend who then advised me to contact Dr.Mugwenu ‘’ Phanice said.
