I lost my job and I had no money to cure my Hepatis B condition

Things started crumbling down when he got a job opportunity in Doha, Qatar, three months later laid off by his previous employer. That was in December 2019 when the mass communication graduate who majored in public relations went for his medical checkup before he could fly to Doha. “ I was looking forward to starting my new job in Doha/ but my medication results cut that dream short because I was diagnosed with Hepatitis B,” a tearful Ochieng narrated. It really seemed like it was kind of  a bad omen in his life.

Ochieng who is the eldest child in a family of two siblings, lost his parents when he was still very young. He was raised by relatives who however left him fend for himself and his younger sister once he graduated from the university. After sometimes he later landed a job as a Marketing and communication officer in a certain Kenyan company where he worked between 2019-2020. With his job he started paying his sisters school fees, but then for the worse in septermber 2020 he was laid of once again. This turn of events forced his sister to drop out of college and relocate to their rural home since Ochieng could not afford to live with her in Nairobi.

“I lost my job in September 2020, Since then I have been unable to pay my sister fees at the KMTC where she was studying nursing, She was forced to drop out in her second year and started manual. But her income was not enough to pay her college fees,” He said. Ochieng kept trying several manual jobs but he could not work because without medication he was constantly collapsing while on it.

According to Ochieng his dosage was too strong and made him weak, especially if he takes it on an empty stomach. “I tried to be a man by staying silent but that has only made things worse. The last time I went to Kenyatta Hospital, I was referred  to a certain hospital abroad but with this kind of life I had been living it was really difficult to afford,” He added. His only remaining of hope was seeking some traditional medical attention which would ensure his condition was treated.  His worry was that which traditional medication was the best and would solve his woes once and for all.
