“I WILL COMMIT SUICIDE!!! HOW CONSTANT NIGHTMARES DROVE UNIVERSITY OF NAIROBI’S NATALIE TO THE BRINK

Natalie, a 21-year-old campus student at the University of Nairobi pursuing a degree in Biochemistry knew exactly what she wanted. Graduate, take a short sabbatical then do her master’s degree after which she would allow herself a reprieve. Acquire skills, mostly social and then consider finding a life partner. A PhD was also in the cards for the near future. If all goes well, she had hoped to be a lecturer at some point at the same institution. So far so good. No cause for concern, at least not yet.

She had a routine, one that ensured success on both fronts; academically and socially. She was a prime example of beauty and brains. Despite the fact that she had to work really hard and smart to get here her focus has since shifted to the future.
” The past is made of moments and incidents that could have killed you but didn’t. You survived. The future on the other hand will test you in more ways than one. Without the Mental awareness and emotional intelligence, it will kill you” her Psychology lecturer always reminded her. Wise words. Words that stuck with her for a long time.

Just when the end of semester exams was around the corner, out of the blue she started to have nightmares. Initially they were mild; she would dream about mammoth spiders or unexpected ground tremors that would scare the shit out of her. She kept her mouth shut. They got worse, from spiders to being chased by winged demons or swallowed whole by venomous snakes. She couldn’t sleep. As soon as she does the hungry grotesque beings would return. Chasing her all over. She would wake up trembling, sweat all over her frail body. Her concentration levels dropped. She failed her exams terribly.

She had to retake several papers, some of which she failed again!!! There was no time to concentrate. Insomnia, the medical term for lack of sleep, was known to have dangerous effects. If not handled quickly, paranoia, stress or even death is possible. She panicked further when she couldn’t even take an hour’s nap without a nightmare disrupting it.
” Suicide seems like the ultimate finality. I can’t take this anymore. Am going crazy. My dreams are being pulled further and further away.” She complained. She deferred and went home to focus on her emotional status.

Her mother was the one who intervened on her behalf. Natalie was so shaken she stayed indoors all day. A friend who had seen worse nightmares confided in her on how she regained control of her life by consulting an herbalist called Dr mugwenu. She gave her his contact and assured her that all will be well. Through his powerful spells he was able to cure her without much hustle. Long-distance healing is a specialty Dr mugwenu is known for. She went back next semester, her dreams restored as well as her nocturnal routine.
