From a Shambaboy To owning A Fleet Of Trucks
My name is Edwin Barasa am 37 years old. I run a transport and logistics company based in Mombasa with a fleet of over 300 trucks.
My journey to riches is one amazing journey from grass to grace. As a young boy I grow up in Kilmilili from the county of Bungoma. Life back at home was miserable. My family struggled to put food on the table and they could not afford our school fees. Being the first born in a family of 4 siblings and seeing my younger siblings suffer the same challenges I was facing, I decided to drop out of school while in form 4. I deliberately did this to try look for a job and help my parents educate my younger siblings.

The little money I got I would spend it on my siblings fees and helping my parents at home. But still it was like a drop in the ocean. My friend Jackson approached me in 2016 and informed me that he was looking for someone who would join him for some job opportunities in Mombasa.
He told me that his uncle who works at the port of Mombasa had secured two slots for loaders and he had asked Jackson to look for another person. Having heard stories on how people working in Mombasa were getting rich overnight, I did not hesitate, I took the chance and travelled with him to Mombasa.
At the port we were employed as loaders and our main work was to offload goods from ships and load ships as well. Here at least I was making enough money to pay my bills and send some at home. I also started to save little by little.

My business flourished and in a span of 1 year I had 2 more trucks new. As I speak now, I have employed over 400 people and I have a fleet of over 300 trucks that transport cargo to all part of Kenya and East Africa region.
