Namakula Nambi, a 50-year-old woman from Jinja, never thought she’d hear the word “mother” directed at her. For decades, she’d prayed, visited numerous doctors, and tried countless remedies in the hopes of starting a family. But by the time she reached her late 40s, she had all but given up. “I had made peace with the idea that motherhood wasn’t in my future,” she recalls. “The heartbreak of every failed attempt was too much to bear. I stopped hoping.”
