Things can change in an instant. Rivers dry up. Buildings collapse. Companies freeze and liquidate. But, that is negative change. The converse is also true. The humble get uplifted while the poor can become rich. This is the story of Pascal Omollo,a former resident of Kibera slums who transformed both his life and fortunes and became a millionaire. It was a struggle mired with challenges, obstacles and steep cliffs. But, despite all that, he stood strong and emerged on the other side victorious.
Life within the slums is hard. Opportunities are limited, resources in short supply. Those who make it leave and decline to lift those left behind. Pascal had a dream. He is one of those who quickly said they wanted to be President in future. He meant it. He couldn’t complete primary school as his dad passed away in a blazing fire one fateful night. Several doors were shut in one day. His mother had to recruit him and promote him to one of the bread winners in the house. So, he started hustling selling plastics and recycled staff within Kibera. Metals, sufuria and anything he could find he packaged them and sold them at a local collection point. Until he learnt of flourishing second-hand goods industry and quickly started his own on the road side selling shoes and leather bags. His hard work enabled him to create a network of friends who supported him and helped him in anything they could, for he was contributing financially for the upbringing of his younger siblings.
Then came the ultimate opening that lifted his spirits and made him an instant millionaire.
