There was peace in Mwadime’s compound until recently when a brutal war of words broke out between Chao and Celestine. Apparently, out of the many men in Voi, they both fell for Maganga, an upcoming politician who managed to clinch the most recent MCA seat. Being Step-sisters, both sets of families picked a side and a favorite. Mwadime didn’t like this for it meant a divide in a family that had known nothing but harmony and peaceful co-existence. There was no sitting on the fence, Celestine’s side pushed harder, calling Chao an imposter and ugly. They went as far as posting photos of her online claiming she was bewitched by her mother and that Chao no longer has the ability to bear anyone children. This angered her, so much that she attacked Celestine in broad daylight, her intention being to eliminate the competition and render herself the only one worthy of Maganga’s attention.
“I met him first, you only took an interest after I came home and told you about our trip to Elementaita five star hotel. If you continue your rude interference, I will have to consider more brutal means to be his sole lover. You are an imbecile, an ugly creepy creature of the night, leave us alone” Celestine shouted after they were separated. Worse, their older brothers grabbed each other by the throat, until both set of mothers intervened. Things were getting out of hand. There was a sitting, one where more insults were used. They agreed to disagree. Maganga was called, to make a decision. His response didn’t clear the air; instead, it added more noise pollution. Quarrelling went on deep into the night, at the expense of sleep for Mwadime and co.
Celestine chose to move out of the compound, while Chao left to visit her older sister who was married nearby in Mtito Andei. Two weeks later, Celestine came home crying, saying that Maganga has openly dumped her for Chao. It was unclear then what made him make such a decision, especially after she had recently emerged as his favorite. Turns out, Chao was given an incredible peace of advice by her sister.
