Mystery of an empty four storeyed building in the heart of the CBD in Mombasa. This is the true narration of what happened and what the owner did to get tenants

I’m Zakaria, a self-employed business man in Mombasa. It’s not every day you get to hear that a piece of land is available in Mombasa’s CBD. So when I got the news, I decided to capitalize and get it before other offers arrive. I met with the owner, Mr Zubeid Chiraghdin and sealed the deal. A cheque of 47.5m was the minimum accepted amount, which I paid in full. I was eager to develop it as soon as possible, so I invited tenders immediately. Construction started in July, as we speak, it is complete, has been for almost a year. Problem is, no one would rent it. I can’t count the number of times I’ve cried because of that investment. A project that was supposed to transform my bank account has instead bled it dry. I sought Mr Chiraghdin to help locate the Kahindis. This has something to do with them. It can’t be that there’s a shortage of rooms and stalls in town, yet my rooms are empty.

I found them in Kaloleni on a small piece of land going about their business.
“Dzalamkadze….mwenehu” I greeted Mr Kahindi Kalume. I introduced myself and explained my reason for showing up uninvited. After careful consideration, he confessed to have sought the help of an herbalist called Dr mugwenu. When they lost the case, he went for his protective spells.
