A woman identified as Sabinah from Taita Teveta caught people’s attention on social media after she shared how her husband paid ksh5000 as her dowry. As she said, her husband had no job or any form of a formal hustle and so that was the amount that he afforded at that particular time. She said her husband depended on small menial jobs to make a living like doing ‘mjengo’ and other jua kali related hustles and so raising a high amount as dowry was a difficult task.
“My parents did not turn him away. They showed him love and affection as he was such an ambitious man who was hard working. He showed the will that one day he gona make it in life and that he would make a good husband. The blessed him and that was how we started our marriage life,” she said.
