A Kenyan man shares his story on how he opted out of gambling after he was an addict for a long time

Karanja a 29 year old could not do without gambling. He lives in Ruaka, a cosmopolitan area about 15km north west of Nairobi, and makes 3000 shilings a day as a truck driver money which he had been often gambling away with most of the times. ”I’m a betting addict. I bet 100 Kenyan shillings a day and 1000 to 1500 Kenyan shillings during weekends,” He says. With the introduction of gambling platforms online, he was able to place his bets online services mostly using his phone or in cyber café. He was able to bet on anything from local league to world cup matches without even winning a single coin only to satisfy his addiction which was not a good thing for such a grown man who had some important family issues to solve. He had been betting because he had been wanting to recover what he lost, sometimes borrowing money or even charging his clients before doing a job to have that money at stake to gamble with.

It reached some point he never went with anything back home as he had used all the money he got from  the job in carelessly gambling. He did nothing of importance of improving the life of his family as he blew all the money in gambling. He he a lot of debts from every friend he had. Things became worse as this habit triggered some wrangle between him and his wife as the wife accused him of being an irresponsible man who did not take care of his family despite working and earning each day. He tried to leave the habit behind but nothing was really close to that. He deposited money in his gambling account more than he withdrew. He was really in a serious problem as his wife even had to leave him. He never even afforded to buy some new clothes but afforded to spare some money for some gambling activities. He finally was rescued by this native doctor who he met on a popular website and contacted him for more.
